Master student wins 1st place at the Bülau competition in Hamburg
Ina Weiler wins 1st prize in the Bülau Competition 2019/20 with her master's thesis "Vom Parkhaus zum Hauspark" (From Parking Garage to House Park): Urban spatial perspectives for Rödingsmarkt, Herrlichkeit and Alsterfleet in Hamburg.
The aim of the thesis is the maximum further use of the existing building fabric ("Circular Economy"). Only as many structural changes will be made to the building as are required to convert it into a mixed residential, cultural and commercial location - according to the author, 86 percent of the reinforced concrete will be retained.
Congratulations!
Places for master theses in ws 2019/20 are taken!
9.8.2019
While „circular economy“ gets more and more important in architecture and construction, we decided to support 6 master students working on this topic in the coming semester. We are looking forward to the results!
publication of the VDI Center for Resource Efficiency "Deconstruction in Building Construction" has been published
The current report of the VDI Center for Resource Efficiency "Deconstruction in Building Construction - Current Practices and Potentials of Resource Conservation", has been published. We contributed to the publication with the research project of HEEMwonen"Superlocal" in Kerkrade, which was accompanied by us. Here, 500 housing units from the 1960s were demolished and reused for new housing units. More info.
The report is available online.
Architects for future

Cycle Oriented Construction (RWTH Aachen University) and Innovationsregion Rheinisches Revier GmbH invite you to join the discussion on ecological indicators in architecture, their relevance and application as well as projects integrating resource-efficient approaches. We look forward to exchanging visions regarding the relation between natural and built environment, especially with a regional focus. An exhibition will show solutions and products which support the circular economy principles. Companies from the construction and building materials sector provide information and experiences of resource efficiency.
Within her stay at UCLA with the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, Prof. Hildebrand was invited to a lecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Design. Under the title 'European Approach to Sustainability in the Built Environment', developments are discussed in the context of Nearly Zero Energy, Reuse and Recycling Directives. The lecture will take place on April 18th at the Advanced Building Construction event.

The programme will focus on utilizing algorithmic and computational design methods, unveiling novel potentials in design at an array of different scales from the material, architectural to the urban. The ten-day programme will bring together a network of distinguished international faculty and guests to offer design-research units, specialist software tutorials and a guestlecture series; the programme will be primarily based in Amman, and will include an exclusive visit to the UNESCO protected world-heritage site of the Wadi Rum desert.
