Background

Resources are becoming increasingly important in improving the relationship between the built and natural environment. An important aspect is the increased use of renewable raw materials as well as the planning of cycle-friendly constructions. In this context, paper materials show great potential to be used as building materials. Pilot projects and basic research already carried out show their possible applications.

The subject of Building with Paper 1:1 is being studied as part of the DBU research project "A Temporary Paper House - Feasibility Study of an Integral Paper Building Project with a Focus on Constructive, Spatial-Climatic and Ecological Properties", which is being conducted together with the TU Darmstadt, ISMD Prof. Knaack and the TU Braunschweig, IGS Prof. Endres. Within the framework of this project, the functionality of selected building components is being investigated. Recyclable construction looks at the ecological properties of paper components. As part of the course, students are invited to develop their own solutions made of paper and to implement them as prototypes. The aim is to use as much paper as is practical.

At the beginning of the course, content-related impulses are given virtually by the three partners.

Task

The work includes the development and detailing of a component, as well as its implementation in a model (1:1). The submission is a presentation and documentation in layout, which includes graphic concept representations, representations of the work and decision-making process, views, perspectives.

Teamwork in groups of 2-3 students
